If you want to get some sound out of your project but have a tight space budget, this is a good way to do it. This 0.25W, 8Ohm speaker is only 30mm in diameter and just over 4.5mm thick, the same kind you might find in one of those "talking greeting cards".

Sorry my previous answer was misleading. If you connect it to an arduino's PWM pin and use the TMRPCM,SD and SPI.h libraries, you can play your recorded voice,sound or music stored in a memory card. But the sound will not be satisfactory. Buzzer takes digital signal, speaker takes analog, though both has two pins.

how does it work? is memory card needed or not? can i send my own voice to get as output from the speaker?

This is just a simple sound producer.Working principle is like a buzzer. There is no provision for memory card or so on.

Received one just today, doesn't work at all. A very low "shs-shs" sound only comes out sometime and most of the time doesn't work.

Maybe you connected the speaker to the power lines...... I dont think it is made to be connected to power lines.....
